Plastic Free and Vegan Travel Essentials

As my recent trip away comes close I've been trying to replace all of my usual toiletry necessities with plastic-free bits. I always opt for cruelty-free and vegan nowadays anyway, but I've become so much more aware that plastic-free doesn't just come in the form of food.

I had to take a look around my bedroom and the bathroom and open my eyes to see what I really need and what I could easily replace. Luckily for the Internet, there are SO many small businesses that are up and coming with conscious living items. My favourite being Plastic Freedom and Lush, but loads of places are on a mission to create environment-friendly products. No they aren't always the cheapest but a lot of the time they are an investment as you don't need as much product.

Have a look at my list of easy swaps to make the next time you need to buy toiletries.

Let's all start making more conscious decisions and save our planet!

1. Bamboo Toothbrush - I got mine from TK Maxx, but Holland and Barrett do a range too. Check the labels to make sure even the bristles can be decomposed. In the US alone about 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown away every year.  You can also buy some natural toothpaste which I found in Planet Organic see below the pic - comes in a metal jar.

2.  Shampoo Bar - Think of how many plastic bottles of shampoo you throw away every week or so. Shampoo bars take some getting used to, but they're actually better for your hair and made of all natural ingredients instead of full of plastic like commercialised shampoo. Find them here.

3. Sukin Face Moisturiser - I've always liked Sukin products as they are Vegan and Cruelty-free and then I noticed that their moisturisers and night creams come in glass jars which is easily recyclable. Not all of their products are plastic-free mind you and the lids on the jars are plastic but it's still a step in the right direction. Find it here.

4. Natural Deodorant - Again another product that you can't recycle and think how many you throw away. Natural deodorants can come in the form of jars like this one, a bar or a stick. There are loads of different scents so no fear of preventing that beloved BO!

5. Menstrual Cup - Now this isn't something I have tried yet, because I have PCOS and haven't had a period in so long, but I have one on hand ready for when I do so that I don't have to use tampons or sanitary towels. I've heard it takes a little getting used to, but once you know how to use it it's pretty amazing. They're not cheap when you first get one, but if you think of how much you spend on products this is literally no money at all! You can get them from Boots or most health shops.
